Assignment 6

Today's Objectives:

1. We will learn to select an individual sentence.

2. We will move text.

3. We will copy and paste text.

4.  We will insert the date by using the Auto Complete function.

Directions: Type the following paragraphs exactly as you see them. After typing the following paragraphs, save the assignment as "wp6".

DELETING, MOVING AND COPYING TEXT

Selecting a Sentence - An individual sentence can be selected by holding down the Control Key and clicking anywhere within the desired sentence.

Delete text-select it and press the Backspace Key.

Move Text (This is Cut)- from one place and put it somewhere else, select the text, choose Edit from the Menu Bar and Cut. Upon deciding where to place the text, move your I-beam to the location and select Edit and Paste. This will place the text in the position that you would like it.

Copy Text- You can perform a similar operation with the copy command.  This leaves the text of interest in it's  original location,  but makes a copy of that same material and pastes it in any position that you would like. This can keep you from having to retype words, phrases or even whole sentences.

*Note: When pasting text into a document, any text after the insertion point moves over and down to the right automatically. This is Microsoft Words automatic reformatting feature.

Let's practice on the following short paragraphs.  Type them as follows:

One of the wonderful parts of life when living up North is enjoying all of the seasons.  Autumn is a beautiful time of the year. I believe Autumn is almost everyone's favorite season.

Winter is a beautiful time of the year.  Winter may not be everyone's favorite season.

Cut and Paste (It is not necessary to type the following; do these steps as exercises).

1.  Select the first sentence of the first paragraph by holding down the Control Key and clicking anywhere in the sentence with the left mouse button.

2.  On the drop down menu click on Edit -> Cut.  This removes the sentence from the paragraph, but places it on the computer's clipboard, or temporary memory.

3.  Click before the word "Winter" in the second paragraph to create an insertion point.  On the drop down menu, click on Edit -> Paste.  This places the clipboard contents at the insertion point.

Copy and Paste

1.  Select the sentence that you just placed in the second paragraph by dragging your cursor over it while holding down the left mouse button.

2.  On the drop down menu click on Edit -> Copy.

3.  Click in front of "Autumn" in the first paragraph to make an insertion point.  Now click on Edit -> Paste on the drop down menu.
