SELECTING AND EDITING TEXT

Before you can make any changes to text in a document, you must select it or at least move the insertion point to the place where you want to make the change. To move the insertion point:

Moving the insertion point or using the Backspace Key to delete text is a good strategy when you want to correct a small error. But if you want to replace several words, it is easier to select the text first. Once you have selected the text, you do not need to delete it before typing new text. The new text will automatically replace what you have selected.

Selecting text can be done in many ways. Here are just a few ways:

Select one word-point the I-beam to that word and double left click

Select a paragraph-Triple left click anywhere within the paragraph

Select an entire line-move the I-beam to the left of the line you want to select until the I-beam turns into an arrow and left click

Select several lines-move the I-beam to the left of the first line you want to select until it turns to an arrow. Now left click and drag your mouse while holding down the left mouse key (up or down) to select more text. When you have selected the amount of text that you want, let go of your left mouse key.

Select Sentences-move the mouse key to any point in the sentence and left click while holding down your control key.

Practice all of these methods on the paragraph that you typed.

Question to ask yourself:  If you create an insertion point at the top of a page, and scroll down the page with the bar at the right hand side of the screen, where do the words go when you start typing?
