Benevolent Prescription Drug Assistance Program

The Council on Aging, Inc. in St. Clair County offers a special support program for the seniors in our county, the Benevolent Prescription Drug Assistance program. This program may enable low-income seniors to receive free prescription drugs from the major pharmaceutical companies.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE:

Any person in St. Clair County over the age of 60. This program will focus on enrolled physicians' patients that are living on highly restricted incomes that routinely spend over 20% of their income for prescriptions and have no other help available.

HOW IT WILL WORK:

Any physician in St. Clair County may enroll in the program. Once enrolled, the physician may refer medically-indigent patients for help with enrollment in benevolent pharmaceutical programs to receive prescription medicines at no cost or a low co-pay to the patient.

Volunteers are trained by our agency to work with physicians to enroll indigent elderly in benevolent pharmaceutical programs offered by the major drug companies. Ongoing training will be provided as requested and as needed by our pharmaceutical coordinator.

The volunteer will be assigned to a number of clients and their physicians. We ask for a six-month commitment to the program and approximately four hours of time per week. The volunteer will make telephone calls and complete necessary paperwork to enroll indigent elderly in these programs.

For more information or if you are interested in volunteering, please call the program coordinator at 1-810-984-5061.
