Making a Chart of Our Budget
Our budget should now look like the following Figure.
Copy the Budget File so that we can Edit it
Go to the folder where the Budget file is stored. Right click on the folder to view the optional menu. Select "Copy" to make a copy of the file.
Right click anywhere on the background of the folder. Select "Paste" to deposit the copy in the folder.
What data do I want to include in my Chart (or Graph)
The information that I want to include (with labels) is in the cell range B6 through E9. Drag your mouse through that range and make sure that it is shaded. This shaded range that you have selected will serve as the data source for your chart.
Making the Chart
Click the Chart Wizard on your toolbar to start the charting process.
Your first choice is to pick the type of chart. We will choose column. Then we pick the type of column, we will pick a 3-D column (called a clustered column).
Click the "Press and Hold to View" button to preview how your chart will appear.
Click Next. This will preview your chart and verify the data range that you have selected. You can edit that data range here if necessary.
Click Next. Want to add a new title for your handiwork? Click in the chart title box and type "My Monthly Budget". Then click in the x-axis box and type "Month".
Click Next and you now have the option to store the chart on a new sheet or as part of the existing sheet. Choose the latter. to view your chart for your monthly budget.
